Thanks Jane for sharing information about time and location for osprey banding.
I was able to observe the whole banding process for the first time in my life
at Windfall Bay, Kent Lake. This album contains photos recorded during the 7/1
banding session from the distance. On the following day I observed banding
event up close at the foot of ACME cell tower. I will share my observation of ACME
banding event in the next album.
1. At 10:19am, Osprey Dad brought back a bullhead fish for the three chicks. Mom was still out fishing. (100% crop) ![]() 2. Banding team arrived at 10:39am. Dad had barely started feeding the kids. He flew away with the fish ![]() 3. Usually Mom stays home to protect and feed the kids. Without Mom this time, the feeding became difficult. After 20 mins the fish still looked like whole. ![]() 4. The bravest kid whom the birders called curious George was standing tall and got caught first. The other two ducked down even before the boat got close ![]() 5. Barb was banding Curious George. It was identified as a boy. ![]() 6. The team was banding the 2nd one while curious George staring down from the nest ![]() 7. At 11:15am, the Mom flew back with a gold fish and only found a boatload of people doing something to her babies. ![]() 8. Circling around, squawking, she was apparently upset. The trailing harassing red-winged blackbird perhaps made her feel even worse. ![]() 9. At 11:27am, banding was done. All three babies were returned to the nest. The "infamous stick" which blocked photographer's view was removed upon request:) ![]() 10. Barb declared banding a success ![]() 11. The Mom returned with the headless goldfish. ![]() 12. Followed by the Dad with the bullhead fish. ![]() 13. The family of five reunited happily. (100% crop) ![]() 下里巴人2013的部分摄影帖:
